Restorations
Victorian geometric floors, while beautiful, often face common issues that mar their charm. There may be missing or loose tiles, along with the effects from bad DIY restorations such as raised tiles and big grout gaps. Covering a hallway with carpet may have preserved the tiles for decades, but big solder plugs remain once the gripper rods are removed and there may be large areas of missing tiles and pipe chases across the floor from the installation of central heating. Additionally, decades of dirt and old peeling varnishes and paint can obscure the pattern and ruin their aesthetic appeal. In probably 80% of cases or more, these floors can be rescued sympathetically. In more extreme cases, where all the tiles have blown or the subfloor has given out, the tiles can be photographed and carefully pulled up prepped and replacements sourced for the damaged tiles, to lay on a new base, often with the added bonus of underfloor heating. Here are some examples of our work to hopefully show you what is possible.
